Broadway update
Further to the posting to this blog yesterday, a number of different and sometimes conflicting issues have been raised by various parties.
I can advise you that all the issues will be considered at the next Plc board meeting on Monday 13th November.
In view of the current position with the building works at Broadway, there is ample time to consider matters calmly, and reach a considered view.
As soon as there is something further to report, one of the directors will do so. Until we have had an opportunity to meet together and discuss things, it would be impractical for any one of us to comment further.

Many thanks Richard, it's reassuring to know there's plenty of time for discussion, I and maybe others got the (clearly wrong) impression that a decision had to be made fairly imminently, I'm relieved this isn't the case.
ReplyDeleteRichard,
ReplyDeleteThank you, the immense response on many sides of the argument show the passion within. Which with sound professional judgement and engagement are the magic glue that binds things, its very strong but also fragile as its all about trust, respect and old fashioned hard work.
I see both sides as a young ish family man, my desire for caffeine outweighs my wife's tolerance of another book........
One final opinion if I may, since Toddington and Winchcombe are only minutes apart is there any real need for two full Cafes so close together, might it not be more sense to downgrade Winchcombe, and move the Coffee pot to Broadway?
ReplyDeleteSuggest you stop the plastering of the café and kitchen area. You won't get away with pleas of "fait accompli"
ReplyDeleteThe deceit has gone far enough already.
Come on people, I believe Richard has been open and honest so far, the directors must be reading the blogs and the amount of interest shown in this "decision". So when they have their meeting they will make a proper decision or put this out for a vote, either way they need to consult all concerned for a correct decision to be made that everyone agrees with, it could well be that there is a delay to work in the room concerned until the final solution is made. But they also need to communicate at all times and with all concerned. They too are volunteers, so lets not start to put out the scaffold yet. I have just realised that although we have shares, we are not members, so until this is sorted out, to every ones satisfaction, we will hold off that membership to see how this is resolved. I personally believe in this heritage line since I discovered it only three years ago, I felt that this was a truly well organized voluntary group, and having been involved in other groups like this to do with aviation, the politics get in the way and some people just put themselves up so that they can throw their own ideas about. This must not happen here please, I always promote the line as the "Cotswolds Smiling Line" lets keep it like that please!

Sadly whatever decision is made one group or the other will continue to disagree. If you want true heritage it won't be a shop or a café. It will be a waiting room.
DeleteThank you for the update. I too am glad that the decision isn't 'sealed in stone'. Please take on board what the writers in these blogs have said, in the fact that we all, (with a very few exceptions), would like to see a cafeteria at Broadway over a shop which could still be placed there in the current building relocated to platform 1. Regards, Paul.
ReplyDeleteThe Board recognised the errors they made at CRC by no having included a Cafe. What did they do they added a hot drinks machine. In addition to coach tours what about special events? Take wants for example hundreds of people turn up in the cold waiting for a train what better place to gain extra income than by having a warm and thriving cafe. Come on guys it makes good business sense. Steve.
ReplyDeleteI am more than happy to contribute to any extra-over costs to ensure the potential for a cafe is passively built into Broadway Station even if it is not practical to open as a cafe from Day 1 for what ever reason. Am sure there are others who would equally pledge.
ReplyDeleteRichard, Might I respectfully ask that the Board investigate the public catering more broadly. My wife and I recently visited the Flag and Whistle Caff (sic) and compared it unfavourably with National Trust cafes, eg Hidcote and Snowshill Manor. Essentially it reduces to what sort of operation is to be run: a transport caff or a more upmarket enterprise. Please bear in mind that the catering model will reflect on the whole GWSR experience.

We believe that the Board should reconsider their position on the cafe. THe best possible is that a cafe is franchised out thus providing a much needed facility whilst not trying to staff it with volunteers.
